So let’s start with what is the quarantine about? Do I really have to do it?
Travelers who arrive from a trans-pacific flight and pass through the airport screeners without a valid negative COVID-19 NAAT from the state of Hawaii’s Trusted Testing and Travel Partners list, will be subject to the state’s mandatory 10-day mandatory self-quarantine.
“Test results will not be accepted once a traveler arrives in Hawaii. Travelers who do not have a negative test result prior to departing for Hawaii must self-quarantine for 10 days.” – Hawaii Tourism Authority
There are consequences to not following the quarantine rules. Violations of this order could result in a misdemeanor with fines of up to $5,000 and/or up to one year in prison, or both.
Despite the CDC’s announcement, Hawaii’s mandatory 10-day quarantine remains in place even for fully vaccinated passengers.

It is important to note that you must quarantine in an approved location. AirBnB types of accommodations do not qualify for a place to self quarantine. You will be required to find an acceptable location.
I heard that Hawaii’s Governor David Ige announced an end to pretesting requirements on June 5, 2021?
The decision to terminate testing/quarantine requirements for (INTER ISLAND FLIGHTS ONLY) comes as the State of Hawai‘i approaches the 55% vaccination rate. As of today, 52% of Hawai‘i’s residents have been fully vaccinated. As the number of those vaccinated in the state of Hawaii increases the restrictions will be adjusted accordingly.
Does quarantine cost me money?
Absolutely! You are responsible for any hotel, car rental, airline, or any related costs having to do with the mandatory 10-day quarantine. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. The cost of an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Islands is taken very seriously.
What if I go to Hawaii for less than 10 days to begin with?
You will spend your entire time in Hawaii in your hotel room. No public areas. No beach. No tours. No public transportation. Your quarantine will be spent entirely within your hotel, condo, or vacation rental with a possible exception of having a medical need. Effectively, everyone has be deputized to report violators.
