Mugging for the Camera

When the opportunity to board the Celerity Edge Cruise Ship came my way, I was so excited! Because I upload photos almost daily to social media, this adventure will allow me lots of new opportunities for original content. I can’t wait to begin! I have three cameras that I will be packing; my iPhone that has been proven a trustworthy friend time and time again, my GoPro 4 Silver, which is not as fancy as the recent GoPros, but still has the capacity to take decent photos around water and other extreme conditions, and my Canon EOS M50, which came highly recommended for creating digital content. Although my Canon is new, I already have a small case of extra accessories to go with it. My dream is to acquire a DJI drone someday soon, to add to my growing photographic arsenal of tools.

I’ve begun to plan for photoshoots, mapping out details for each one, and logging them into my daily planner. I don’t want to completely lose creative spontaneity, but I figure being somewhat prepared for my travel is a great way to secure additional opportunities. For an upcoming trip, I plan to create a story of Cindy’s Lei Shoppe in Honolulu. Years ago, I remember ordering Cindy’s leis for a travel group I put together. Having a photo with Cindy, surrounded by her creations, has long been a goal of mine. She and her friends make the most beautiful leis; they are highly sought after by the locals. Their exquisite handiwork would be thrilling for me to photograph. The combinations of Hawaiian sourced plants and flowers can be so beautiful, fragrant, and unique. Those ambrosial works of art mark special occasions for many, all over the world!

Clearly, I’m not a professional photographer. My philosophy (until I get better) is to just point and shoot. I figure if you do that enough times, magic will happen sooner or later. My bigger talent is in the postproduction. After the pictures are taken, I’m pretty good at sizing, adjusting the color, lighting, focus or even adjusting the subject.

I joined a growing group of individuals known as “The Lost Creators”. They specialize in creating content for social media. Their body of work is astonishing! From this group, I’ve learned that content creation can be a full-time job, and not an easy one, at that. I have a lot of respect for them, as they travel the world creating vast amounts of content as they go. I once deluded myself into thinking I could wear the multiple hats of both content creation and travel planning. But each profession is time-consuming. To excel at either, you really need to focus, and specialize. I’ve chosen travel planning as my focus. However, to a lesser degree, I will create much of my own content. I enjoy it, and it’s a great creative outlet for me.

During “2020” I ran through many of my personal travel photos. Every day became a “Throwback Thursday”! After this period came a decidedly mediocre time of curating the photos of others. I’m anxious to get back out there, explore the world, and attempt to capture its essence, as only I see it, to share with my friends on social media. I think many in the travel planning business may see the job of “content creation” as competition. I see it as an opportunity for people to collectively share the amazing world we live in. I firmly believe it is a case of “the more, the merrier”!

I am taking one of my favorite thermos cups onboard the Edge with me. It accurately resembles a Canon camera lens. The details are amazing! If you’re wondering, “Where’d you get that?” I have added a link below. It’s reasonably priced at about 9 bucks! How cool, right? I think they make great gifts for any travel or photography enthusiast. I don’t personally sell these, but I do include links to special items I come across in my never-ending quest for nifty travel-related stuff.  In some cases, I may receive a small commission for the referrals. So thank you for your support!
